I see in the near future a crisis approaching that unnerves me and causes me to tremble for the safety of my country. ... corporations have been enthroned and an era of corruption in high places will follow, and the money power of the country will endeavor to prolong its reign by working upon the prejudices of the people until all wealth is aggregated in a few hands and the Republic is destroyed. |US President Abraham Lincoln, Nov. 21, 1864 (letter to Col. William F. Elkins) Ref: "The Lincoln Encyclopedia", Archer H. Shaw (Macmillan, 1950, NY)||

Reflective Summary Huy Nguyen Clemson Health Center Internship Summer 2006
The internship has been a wonderful experience for me to explore my career options and to get to know myself better in the business world. The experience has contributed to my personal and professional growth and beneficial workplace skills development. During the internship, I have gained valuable work experience and business relationships that will help my career advancements. Health service administration is my career choice and I am pursuing it with my all my efforts. I choose administration because I can have an opportunity to make a different in healthcare system by assisting in solving the high cost and limiting access issue. I am an outgoing person and I also like leadership, so administration suits my personality. The internship helped me narrow down more specifically what I want to do in healthcare service administration. There are countless job positions such as billings and accounts management, service and personnel management, and hundred others that support the administration process. However, technology has been fascinating me with its wonders and contributions to today world’s advancements. I believe that technology can help advance healthcare services to the fullest potentials in providing precision tools for screenings, assessments, treatments, diagnostics and patient’s account services. With the right use of technology, healthcare services will be efficient and cost effective. I am affirmed that by working with technology in healthcare, I can achieve my desire to make a different in the healthcare system by assisting in solving the high cost and limiting access issue. Besides knowing that I will enter the technology field in the healthcare sector, I have obtained valuable business skills such as organizational, communications, and interpersonal while performing tasks as the site. I also learned about strategic planning and budgeting through the consultation of my preceptor, Sue Herb, a Registered Nurse and the administrator of Clemson Health Center. Two major projects I completed at the sites are redesigning Clemson Health Center website and developing patient’s satisfaction survey. The two projects have let me fully utilize my technical, communication, artistic, and marketing skills. The website I developed will help the firm with a trade advantage in providing quicker information to the prospective and existing patients. Prospective patients can access the website and learn about available medical services and how to contact the provider. Existing patients can access the website for office hours and medical tips. The patient’s feedback survey can serve as an evaluation of the firm from the patients in which customizable to the firm’s needs. Overall, my internship at Clemson Health Center has been a great success, and I am looking forward to advance my career in healthcare service administration with the information technology concentration. |
